How to Open an FB2 File on Android
To open an FB2 file on Android, install a reader app that supports the format, then either tap the file and choose that app under “Open with”, or import it into the app’s library. Android has no built-in handler for FB2, which is why tapping one usually produces an app chooser with nothing useful in it.

What an FB2 file is
FB2, short for FictionBook, is an ebook format built on plain XML. It came out of the Russian-speaking ebook community in the early 2000s and remains widely used across Eastern European catalogs.
Like EPUB, it is reflowable: it stores structured text rather than fixed pages, so the words rearrange to fit your screen and font size. Unlike EPUB, an FB2 book is usually a single XML file rather than an archive of many files, with images embedded directly inside it. That makes FB2 files small, easy to generate and easy to convert, which is much of why the format has lasted.
The design goal was semantic accuracy. An FB2 file marks up what a piece of text is, such as an epigraph, a poem stanza, a section title, rather than how it should look. For fiction in particular, that produces a clean and consistent result.
How to open FB2 on Android, step by step
1. Install a reader that supports FB2
Support is not universal, so check before assuming. Many popular readers handle EPUB and PDF only and will silently refuse an FB2. Aurora Reader lists FB2 among its six supported formats, is free, and shows no ads.
2. Get the file onto your phone
Any of the usual routes works, because an FB2 is just a file:

4. Set it up once
Font, size, line spacing, margins and theme apply across your library, so you only do this once. An FB2 behaves exactly like an EPUB here: it reflows, so raising the text size simply uses more pages.
Why you still run into FB2
Four common sources, and knowing which you have usually predicts whether it will open cleanly.

- Personal archives. Collections assembled over years often contain FB2 alongside EPUB.
- Conversion output. Desktop tools such as Calibre write FB2, so a file may have started life in another format.
- Older public-domain downloads, from sites that offered FB2 among their format options.
All four are ordinarily DRM-free. FB2 was never tied to a commercial store ecosystem the way Amazon’s formats were, so protected FB2 files are rare.

Both reflow, both are open, and both read the same way once open. The differences that actually affect you:

When an FB2 will not open
Work through these in order. The first two cover almost everything.
The app does not support FB2. By far the most common cause. Check the store listing rather than assuming; plenty of readers stop at EPUB and PDF.
The file is still zipped. A .fb2.zip needs unzipping first. Some readers handle it directly, many do not.
The download was interrupted. A partial file often looks complete in a file manager and fails on open. Re-download from the original source.
The XML is malformed. FB2 is stricter than HTML, so a file generated by a sloppy tool can fail to parse where a browser would have been forgiving. Converting it to EPUB with a desktop tool such as Calibre usually repairs the structure as a side effect.
Encoding looks wrong. Older FB2 files sometimes declare an encoding they do not actually use, which shows up as garbled characters rather than a failure to open. Converting is again the practical fix.
