Why EPUB reads better than a fixed page
An EPUB stores structured text rather than a picture of a page. The reader decides where lines break, which means the book adapts to your screen instead of the other way round.
Make the type bigger and the words simply spread across more pages. Nothing needs pinching, and no line runs off the edge. On a phone that difference is the whole experience.
Typography controls that matter for long reading
The settings below do more for reading fatigue than any hardware. Start with the size one or two steps above what feels natural, then open up the line spacing.

How to open an EPUB file on Android
If a file refuses to open, check the extension first. A .acsm is not a book. It is an Adobe DRM authorisation ticket, and it needs Adobe’s ecosystem to become one.

Where to find EPUB files worth reading
Once the reader is set up, the shortage is books rather than software. Three public-domain libraries between them cover most of the classics, all DRM-free and all legal.
- Standard Ebooks: a smaller catalog, but each title is re-typeset and proofread by volunteers. If the book you want is here, this is the best free edition of it that exists.
- Project Gutenberg: over 70,000 titles and near-complete coverage of the classics. Presentation is plainer, since most files are faithful transcriptions rather than designed books.
- Feedbooks: public-domain titles alongside a paid catalog, and one of the standard OPDS feeds.
DRM: the honest limitation
EPUBs bought from Kindle, Kobo, Google Play Books or an Adobe-protected library are encrypted, and a general-purpose reader cannot open them. That is not a missing setting and no reader app can work around it; a store-locked book has to be read in that store’s app.
